Blepharoplasty is a surgery designed to eliminate excessive skin and fat in the eyelids. The procedure is usually done to correct drooping of the upper eyelid, as this may produce the partial loss of visual field. Blepharoplasty of the lower eyelid eliminates pouches under the eyes.
How does it function?
On the previously marked line, excess skin and fat of the upper eyelid are eliptically removed with a scar in the eyelid crease. The incision in the lower lid is placed just below the eyelashes, and if there is no excess skin, fat tissue is removed without leaving an external scar.
How long does the surgery take?
The surgery is performed under local anesthesia taking 30 minutes for the upper and 45 minutes for the lower eyelid.
Time to recovery
For the first 24 hours following the surgery, cold compresses must be applied on the eyelids. Stitches are removed in 5 days.
How long will the results last?
Blepharoplasy is considered a permanent solution for drooping eyelids and pouches under the eyes.
Are there any side effects?
The majority of side effects of blepharoplasty are of a transient nature. Blurred vision is a normal experience that may be felt for 2-3 days. Swelling may also be evident, and some patients have experienced itching and eye dryness, but the problem will subside in about a week.
